The Wear Color Challenge || What I Wore This Week (Part 1)

Since the great closet clean out of 2019, I was left with a whole foot of closet real estate. This also meant that I had parted with many of the options I had been leaving myself. I still have plenty to wear, but in an effort to really see what I have and wear, I’ve decided to document my daily outfits whether it be work or play. My goal is to figure out what I wear most, what I need more of, and what I do not/did not wear at all during the month of April.

I was left with a LOT of neutrals, mostly black. I’m not mad about it. It’s my favorite color. Black and white is a theme in my home and my wardrobe. I gravitate to neutrals, but I’ve been craving color. My aunt sent a bunch of hand-me-downs, and all but one piece that I kept was colorful. When I brought them home I noticed that I had a few color options already in my wardrobe that I’d not been wearing. Maybe it was the addition of the new-to-me clothes or the spring fever I’ve got, but I decided to challenge myself to wear color in the month of April. I know I won’t succeed every day, but I’m going to do my best to wear more color. Here’s hoping I stick to it, and here’s how my first week went.

Monday

Similar Leopard Top | Similar Pants (not quite the same color) | Shoes

Monday started out with the color I’ve been most insecure about my entire life- yellow. I found these mustard pants at Old Navy right before school started and fell in love. I didn’t think yellow on the bottom would be so bad, so I went for it. I wore them once, and I’m not sure I’ve worn them again. Until today! They paired well with an old Old Navy leopard button front shirt that I front tucked and my Time and Tru $8 sandals from Walmart.

Tuesday

Similar Linen Top | Jeans | Shoes

I went a lot more casual on Tuesday because we had pep club. I never know if we’re going to be outside or in, and sometimes we have to be able to move to show them how it’s done. 🙂 The linen shirt is one of the hand-me-downs from my aunt that is a salmon pink color. I paired it with Old Navy jeans and the same sandals from Monday.

Sweatshirt | Jeans | Similar Shoes

If you’ve been here long enough, you know that Tuesday is date night. I went back to black, but only because the linen shirt was wrinkled beyond repair, and I’m usually a little chilly in the restaurant. I can’t believe I’m saying the words Old Navy again, but the sweatshirt is from there. It’s super soft, and I wear it all the time. I sized up so that I could layer with it, but a bonus is that it just hangs and can be front tucked and paired with heels and gold jewelry to make it look a little nicer. I pulled my hair into a loose, low bun and headed out for tacos with the hubs.

Wednesday

White Tee |Similar Style Kimono | Pants | Shoes

I’ll be honest and say that I didn’t really like this outfit. I wanted to wear the kimono, but I don’t like it paired with the chambray linen pants. It was just a lot of blue, but I was out of time to pick another outfit. I think at this point I was missing the ease of throwing on my simple black shirt and knowing I looked okay. Guess where my t-shirt and pants are from? Did you guess Old Navy? Because you’d be right! I should partner with them. I wonder how many times I have to say Old Navy for them to notice this post? Old Navy, Old Navy, Old Navy. Haha! I do not remember where the kimono is from. I believe it was a gift. The shoes are Chocolat Blu from Wisteria Cottage. They are sold out and won’t be getting more, but I was told they can be found at Sikes and Kohn’s.

Thursday

Tank (no longer in stripe option) | Similar Blue Blouse | Pants | Shoes

On Thursday I had to cover someone’s morning duty and it was the awards day program, so I was trying to look nice since we’d have parents in the audience, but I was trying for color. I decided to go with my, you guessed it, Old Navy black pants and an old blue/gray button front boutique top layered over a black and white striped Old Navy tank. I paired it with the Chocolat Blu gray wedges and instantly wished I had a pair of black wedges. That definitely needs to be my next shoe purchase.

Friday

Sweatshirt | Jeggings | Sneakers (These exact ones aren’t available anymore.)

At school on Friday we had a Healthy Kids Parade where we walk the long driveway of the school and have a pep rally at the football field. I knew that I would be expected to walk with my students, so I opted for tennis shoes and something comfy. I actually had the craziest of mornings and couldn’t find my keys. Needless to say I felt like I drove the struggle bus that day. I decided to re-wear the black sweatshirt from date night. I paired it with my favorite jeggings from Walmart and my neon Puma sneakers. The jeggings are almost always in stock in store and in many color ways. I was extremely comfortable but got hot sitting in the sun at the pep rally in that black sweatshirt. I should have layered with one of those Old Navy tees. 🙂

Saturday

Similar Leopard Shirt | Black Jeggings | Wedges

Saturday was a work day, but I was feeling really uninspired by what I saw in my closet, so I reached for something easy and familiar. It worked and was comfortable. The leopard top was definitely a repeat offender.

Sunday

Similar Dress | Shoes

On Sunday, Mom and I headed to Vineland, Alabama to attend church and a wedding shower with Andrew, Anna, and her family. It was the sweetest church and church family. I love seeing where people come from, and it was just confirmation that Anna is truly good people. I knew I’d win the color challenge with this dress that I picked up from Target last year. It’s not available anymore, but the shoes are and are also from Target. I even wore colorful earrings that picked up on the corals in the dress.

What I learned in week one:

I need to pick out my outfits the night before. It’s so easy to just go with what I know- black top and jeans or black pants.

I think I did okay with the wear color challenge. I’m hoping to continue for the entire month and hoping to not repeat too many of the same colorful outfits. Time to think outside the box.

Challenge accepted.
