5 Good Things | No. 21

The time is always right to do what is right.” -Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Happy MLK Day! How’s everyone doing? I’ve had a great week and have been getting ready to go back to school tomorrow with my students. We have been doing virtual school these first two weeks of the new year, and they come back tomorrow. If you’re a teacher who has been through this, it is kind of nice not worrying about the morning school traffic and getting to go to the bathroom whenever you need to, but virtual learning is not proving to be an area in which we excel. Students are learning best in the classroom, and we’re teaching best when they’re in those desks. I’m looking forward to seeing their faces in the flesh tomorrow.

Now, let’s dive right in to those 5 good things.

Sex and the City is Coming Back!!!!!

Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis all dropped a massive bomb on us SATC fans by letting us know that the story is continuing! I am a shamelessly huge fan of the show and the movies, and I will be jumping right in with both feet. I do not care what people have to say about the fact that Samantha will not be part of the show. I know the very capable Michael Patrick King will give us something brilliant. All I know is that it’ll be on HBO Max. We don’t know when it will begin, but we do know that it is rumored to be a limited series with the title “And Just Like That”. I CAN’T WAIT!

HoverCam

This neat device is something I’ve been using the past two weeks for virtual learning, and I am in love. I’ve been using a very dated projection tool called an Elmo, which was a wonderful thing when they first came out back in my first couple of years of teaching (around 2009). But as you can imagine, the picture quality isn’t great, it has to plug in the wall as well as the computer and have another cord connected to the projector. Too much sugar for a dime as some of my southern mamas would say.
Enter the HoverCam. It is a sleek device that only plugs into my computer. It’s easily transported and has a great picture quality. I’m sure I’m way behind the times on this one, but let me be excited! It has been awesome. If you’re in the world of virtual teaching and don’t have one. Look into it and then petition your school to purchase them.

HRH: So Many Thoughts on Royal Style
by Elizabeth Holmes

The ultimate book for lovers of fashion and royals has been written! I stumbled upon Elizabeth Holmes’ Instagram account a few years ago and fell in love with her content. I’d always watched what Kate and Meghan wore and even enjoyed looking back at what Diana wore, but I’d never seen anything like what Elizabeth was doing. She takes a photo of the royal family and analyzes what they wore and why they wore it. It is fascinating!

I never put much thought into why they wore what they wore to certain events, but Elizabeth did, and wow did she give us something to think about! Enough to write a book on the subject, and the book is delightful. I’ve learned so much and the photos are incredible. It’s on sale at Amazon for less than $20, so you might want to scoop one up for yourself and one for the royal/fashion lover in your life.

Beverage Table

Remember that table I made? I am still loving it. Read about how I made it here.

Walmart Sneakers

I just scooped these up Saturday in store, but it’s all I’ve worn since. They are wonderfully comfortable and exactly what I wanted: a white sneaker with a little something extra. The faded gold heel detail is perfect. At under $15, it was an easy purchase.

Bonus Goodness

The Clean Deo Launch at Beautycounter

This product has been 5 years in the making, and it’s been worth the wait. Clean deodorant can be tricky. Beautycounter didn’t want to just put out a product just to have one out there. It needed to actually work. That’s something they take pride in. I’m giving it a try myself, so I’ll report back on how I like it. I promise I’ll be honest. I’ve not liked the clean deodorants I’ve tried in the past. Fingers crossed this will be the one! Check it out for yourself here.

What I Read: Deacon King Kong by James McBride
Interesting story. Clever writing. Wonderfully developed characters. I laughed. I teared up. I really enjoyed this book. Audiobook narrator was fantastic. Highly recommend it that way.

Real weird but ended up being pretty interesting. Definitely in the fantasy genre, which was new for me. Haven’t read fantasy since Harry Potter. I was really rooting for the main characters by the end.
Just Started: Everything Beautiful in It’s Time
by Jenna Bush Hagar
Up Next: The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett

2021 has started off with a bang in reading. I’m hoping that keeps up. I hope y’all enjoy your day if you’re getting to be off of work. Let’s make it a great week and be kind to each other.
