GARLIC BRUSSEL SPROUTS RECIPE
Say hello to my new favorite side dish. I have never actually liked brussel sprouts. I thought they were pretty bitter, and I’d probably never had them jazzed up before. But in an effort to better our health in our thirties, Paul and I decided to give them a go and to find a recipe that would hopefully make them appetizing and still be healthy.
I did a Pinterest search, as one does when looking for a recipe, and I stumbled across this recipe. The recipe called for Dale’s sauce, which I didn’t have, so I had to improvise a little. The end result was extremely tasty, and we ate them every week for about a month. Just last weekend Paul asked if maybe we could skip them this week and try something different. 🙂 I guess I was burning him out on them. I’m not tired of them yet, though!
They really are that good and very easy and quick to make.
Step by Step Instructions
*If you buy frozen brussel sprouts, be sure to thaw them prior to cooking and cut in half after they have thawed.*
Add a tablespoon of butter and also add in a tablespoon of olive oil to a pan. Finely chop a small onion or half a large onion (do the whole large onion if you like it, though) and add to the melted butter and olive oil.
Add in the thawed, halved brussel sprouts once the onions are translucent and saute for about 8 minutes on medium heat.
Make sure your brussel sprouts are starting to get those nice browned bits.
Once the brussel sprouts start to brown, add in two tablespoons minced garlic. Do less if you’re cooking for my dad. 🙂 Saute about 2 more minutes.
This is where Aunt Bee will tell you to add the Dale’s. Well, since I didn’t have Dale’s but I did have Worcestershire sauce, I added that. I just dashed the W sauce in until I thought it had enough. I know a little can go a long way, so I didn’t want to overdo it. And if you like it more than other members of your family then just add some to your own helping. Let it warm another minute or so, sprinkle with garlic salt and pepper, and you’re done!
These are seriously so delicious. There’s something about the texture of brussel sprouts that I love. They have a slight crunch and a good chew. Is that weird? I don’t care. I love them. If you’ve been wanting a new way to try brussel sprouts, try this way. Or try Aunt Bee’s way. I intend to when I remember to buy Dale’s. 🙂 When you try it out, let me know if you liked it or if you put another spin on it!

- Add Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, and pepper to taste
- Serve immediately
At Ruth’s Chris, we had them fixed this way: Sliced in half, tossed in a little bit of honey, sprinkled with bacon bits and broiled in the oven. Amazing what a little good seasoning will do to those nasty green vegetables, LOL. Your version sounds easier, will definitely give it a try.
Haha! Nasty green vegetables! 🙂 The Ruth’s Chris way sounds incredible, though!
