Movie Set Monday- Father of the Bride

Father of the Bride and Father of the Bride Part II are some of the best movies. Maybe one of the best sequels out there. And of course, the incomparable Nancy Meyers had her hand in it, so we know the movie set is gorgeous. I’ve featured just a few (wink wink) of her films on the Movie Set Monday series. You can see them here.

This may be one of the most iconic house exteriors. It’s everyone’s dream home including the white picket fence.

It’s pretty idyllic. The decor is traditional and classic. The movie is set in the early 90s, but even today it’s a beautiful space. Perhaps we’d have cooler paint colors on the walls with a soft gray nowadays, but even then it would look great with the same decor and furniture. And the wainscoting and window on the staircase will never go out of style.  Some of the decor changed from the first to second movie, but I love how it depicts the realness of life that way. The fireplace mantel is the most noticeable change in decor.

If you’ve been around here for a while you know I love a good pair of French doors. These are no exception, of course. I’ve always liked the idea of hanging pots and pans, especially those copper ones. Also, can we talk about that range? So pretty. And I’m feeling those butcher block counter tops in the white kitchen.

In the sequel George built a nursery for baby Megan, and it’s perfection. It is a full on baby paradise complete with French doors and a fireplace. If I’d had that kind of room as a child, I’d probably have never moved out. 😉

Another change we see in decor from the first movie to the seque is in the bedrooml. In the corner above you can see some sort of exercise machine-or maybe it’s a lamp in front of an exercise machine, but in the bottom picture you see they’ve added a tiny sitting area- one of my favorite things about a master bedroom. Again, even though the movies are set in the 90s, the style is still timeless. Sure, maybe some fixtures (like those lamps) could be updated to something more modern, but overall, it’s just timeless decor.
Does anyone else obsess over this house when you watch the movie? I didn’t to start with, but the older I got and rewatched the movie the more I began to appreciate how beautiful it was and is. Tell me your favorite part in the comments. I think I like the nursery the most!

Have a great week, friends.
