Movie Set Monday- Home Alone

When you start scrolling through these pictures you’re going to say, “Elizabeth, what is wrong with you? Why did you pick this house? The wallpaper. The tile countertops. The wallpaper.  The patterns. The wallpaper.” 🙂

But hear me out. This house is iconic. We’ve all seen Home Alone and could recognize the exterior anywhere. It’s a massive, gorgeous home. Though the inside may be behind in our modern day decor, it’s still a great home with many things to enjoy.

Walking into a home with a large foyer and a grand staircase is dreamy to a lot of people, myself included. The big window at the landing of the staircase is the perfect placement for letting light into such a big house. It doesn’t hurt that it’s a pretty window too.

Did I mention there was a lot of wallpaper? Because goodness gracious that’s a lot of pattern in one shot. Different wallpaper patterns, the rugs, the drapes in the furthest room. My eyes hurt. But look at those wood floors. And I see French doors. And the ceilings seem pretty high. With a little love a lot of money, this place could be remade into something special. (It was, actually, and sold for 1.6 million dollars. Do the Google search; it turned out quite nice.)

And look at all those Christmas decorations. Even more patterns. Mercy.

The kitchen brings us more wallpaper and those tile counter tops. Looking past that, we see an extremely large room with a massive island and a breakfast table for eight. Again, we could really make this room awesome if we were given the resources. The hanging pots and pans must have been a trend. We saw it in Father of the Bride too.

The arched openings upstairs and the wainscotting are small but pretty and charming details.

Good gracious, more wallpaper in the master bedroom. Can you imagine the job it was to remove it all when the owners really did renovate?  I do love the size of this room and the fireplace. The ceilings are also tall enough to have a four poster bed. If I had an old home with a huge master bedroom with tall ceilings I’d have a four poster bed too. But one of those black iron ones with the boxed out top. This image is probably my favorite one from the film. Christmas time is my favorite time of the year. This is one of the reasons I love it so much. Decorating the exterior with white lights can be so beautiful, and with a house like this, beautiful is exactly the word to describe it.

Anyone grow up in a house with this much wallpaper? Or have a family member with a house with this much wallpaper? We had a wallpapered ceiling in the house I grew up in. My mom would want me to say that it wasn’t her design decision. It came that way. 🙂

Happy Monday, y’all!
