Remember that time I painted that canvas navy blue?
Well, I just kept thinking it was too much blue in one corner. So, I painted it again…
Except I had two square canvases and decided to paint them as opposites. (This turned out to be an all out disaster, and I ended up with two paintings that looked like a 2 year old did it. Instead, I did two similar paintings.)
I’ve been obsessed with black and white abstract pieces for a few years, and rather than order a print or two from Minted that I really liked but shouldn’t spend the money on, I decided I’d make my own.
Let me preface this post by saying I am in no way an artist. Some of you will look at this and probably think it looks like a two year old did these too. That’s okay with me! Abstract art is my favorite, and for some reason I think I can do it myself. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. So, it was lots of fun to paint. It seemed scary to put that first brush stroke on the canvas because well, what if I hated the way it turned out? Luckily, I don’t hate it! It isn’t blue, it’s the abstract that I wanted, and it was free!
Don’t be afraid to just try. I always tell people, “It’s just paint.” I’m usually talking about walls or furniture that’s being painting, but I’ve proven you can paint a canvas again and again. I’m not sure if you really should, but when it’s just for you and not for sale, why not? Just take the chance and TRY. If you fail, no one will ever know (unless you put it on the internet like I did).
What do you have to lose? Get your creative wheels turning and make something you love just for you.
You’re so talented!! I’m still obsessed with the painting you did that went over your sofa at the old house. Where’d you put that one?
It’s in my bedroom, but it won’t fit the decor if I actually stick with the design plan I have in my head for that room. Who knows where it’ll go?! Thank you, my friend! You’re a pretty talented crafty lady yourself, ya know?
