I must have lived in Manhattan in a past life. I have always been attracted to the concrete jungle and have had the privilege to visit it once when I was thirteen. It’s so appealing with the skyscrapers, the fashion, Central Park, Rockefeller Plaza, Broadway shows, New York-style pizza, and the Brownstones. Naturally, we’ll be visiting another Brownstone today from way back in the early 60s.
If you’ve never seen Breakfast at Tiffany’s, then you should definitely put it on your list of movies to watch. It’s a classic if not for anything other than Audrey Hepburn eating a pastry in that iconic black dress in front of Tiffany’s. Fun fact: I read once that she actually hated the pastries and had a hard time keeping them down during the filming of this scene.
Holly Golightly’s apartment is a super chic yet small one but that’s part of its charm.
She had a very unique style. I mean, her sofa is a claw foot tub.
I think it’s interesting how she rearranges everything in order to set out the table for a dinner. How about that animal head? Some sort of bull, I guess. I think it’s kind of neat and original. Not your average deer mounted on the wall, for sure. I like her style. She’s got a bit of a Parisian vibe going in here, and I’m not hating it. The mirror with the globe sconces is very cool.
Holly’s kitchen is small, but it’s totally functional and typical of a small apartment in New York. Look at the cute little fridge. Of course, it’s perfect for a single person living in a small apartment.
Unlike the other Brownstones I’ve written about, this one doesn’t have the architectural appeal. There’s not a lot of fabulous molding around the doors, floors, or ceilings. The windows don’t appear to let in a ton of natural light. The floors are not made gorgeously worn hardwoods. But maybe that’s the charm of it. It’s a simple home for a complex tenant that won’t be utterly ruined by her wild parties. 😉
Can you believe that many people would fit into this room? I bet it was fun to film. Another fun fact: the home was sold not too long ago, and it had been remodeled beautifully.
Thanks for visiting New York with me again. I hope you enjoyed the tour of Holly Golightly’s home. Now go search out Breakfast at Tiffany’s and enjoy the next rainy afternoon watching it.
Have you seen the film? Are you as big a fan of New York as I am? Anyone in for planning a trip to visit and have our own pastries in front of Tiffany’s for breakfast? 🙂 Happy Monday, y’all!
