Tailgate Tuesday- Cheesy Meaty Sliders

I’ve got a recipe for a slider that’s satisfying enough for dinner but so delicious that you’ll eat them again for breakfast the next morning.

Cheesy Meaty Sliders are something I found on Pinterest a long time ago. I made them, everyone loved them, then I lost the recipe. Womp womp.

I found a similar recipe, but decided to go with what I thought I remembered, and turns out, I think I did it right!

Because they’re made with sausage, they have a bit of a breakfast vibe. I think they’d be perfect for a morning tailgate when you have to get out there early to actually get any “tailgating” done.

Full disclosure, I have so much deer meat in my freezer, that I used it instead of ground beef. I also could only find the Sara Lee brand sweet rolls instead of the King’s Hawaiian sweet rolls. Also, there was only one pack of those, so the other twelve sliders are made with regular Sara Lee dinner rolls. They tasted just fine but didn’t have the hint of sweetness. Honestly, there wasn’t that much difference so don’t be bummed when you can’t find the sweet ones.

Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground sausage (in the log)
  • 1 pound Velveeta
  • Pepper to taste
  • 24 King’s Hawaiian sweet rolls

Directions

  1. Brown beef and sausage together in a large skillet.
  2. Drain grease from meat.
  3. Return to pan and add cubed Velveeta.
  4. Heat to melt cheese.
  5. Warm the rolls (I heat them in the microwave.)
  6. Spoon meat/cheese mixture into each roll.
  7. Serve warm.

*Sliders can be kept warm in a low oven on a sheet pan until ready to serve.Have you made these or similar sliders before? If not, give them a try this weekend. Or save the recipe for a surprise breakfast sandwich for your holiday house guests in a few months.
