This post has been in the works for a while, and I’m glad I’m finally getting to write it. Being a Beautycounter consultant means that I need to be well-versed in my products. I don’t always have the need for the newest skincare lines and products they release, but when they came out with their Countercontrol line, which is geared towards those of us with oily and acne-prone skin, I knew it was something I wanted to try. I had a good bit of the Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion left, so I wanted to use that up before I completely shook up my routine.
The Countercontrol line consists of five products: cleanser, toner, all over acne treatment, spot treatment, and moisturizer. I decided to give the moisturizer a try and ease my way into the line so I didn’t shock my skin with all new products. I’m not sure if that’s the best way to do it; I’m not a doctor. But I know that my skin is prone to breakouts when I do anything drastic, so I wanted to spare myself that aggravation. I received the Matte Effect Gel Cream in early October and started using it every morning and night in place of the Countermatch lotion.
The cream is said to be a cream-to-gel formula that is not too greasy but will hydrate your skin and control the oiliness of your skin for up to eight hours. I’m going to be honest…I didn’t believe that. And I was right to an extent. I was oily by lunch time, but I wasn’t surprised, either. I have unusually oily skin. However, I will say that the degree of oiliness was definitely less severe than normal. That continues to be the case after a month and a half of using the product. By 3pm, I really need to powder my nose or use a blotting paper.
I like that this moisturizer isn’t heavy. It’s very light on the skin and doesn’t feel like there’s much product there at all. It absorbs beautifully. I’ve noticed, now that it’s significantly colder than it was at the beginning of October, that my skin is a little drier. Now, I’m reaching for the Cleansing Balm as an overnight mask that I put on before I go to bed. I don’t put too much on, but I notice that it helps when my face needs a little more moisture.
In December, I ordered the Clean Beauty Go-Tos set. (It’s, unfortunately, no longer available, but I’ll let y’all know when it comes back in stock. In this set I received a travel size of the SOS Acne Spot Treatment and the Clear Pore Cleanser. I’ve only been using these products about a week and a half, but I’ve already had a hormonal breakout since getting in the mail. This was the perfect opportunity for me to use the SOS Spot Treatment, and, y’all, the blemish was gone in two days! No redness, no leftover bump, nothing. Just gone. (Insert praise hands!) This particular product is a huge winner in my book. And you only need the tiniest amount. One tube of this will last you a long time.
Now for the Clear Pore Cleanser. I am a big fan. I like that you don’t need a lot of product to get a good clean feeling on your skin. There are tiny little scrubbers in there, so it’s actually a daily exfoliant. That can sometimes send up a red flag for me because you don’t want to exfoliate too much or it can strip your skin of the moisture it needs. However, it works for people like me who have chronically clogged pores. I’m always in a battle with the blackheads, so this has been so nice for my skin. I will continue to use this product (mornings only- still using the charcoal bar at night), and I will report back on how it’s going after more time has passed.
Overall, I’d highly recommend all three products. The moisturizer is wonderfully light-weight, and if you don’t have the Cleansing Balm, you can always use coconut oil as a great overnight moisturizing mask.
If you have any questions or want to try it, let me know. I’d be happy to loan it to you. I’m planning to try the toner next. I hear it will do wonders for your pores, so I’m excited to start that soon. If there are any other products from Beautycounter you’d like me to review or try out, leave me a comment, and I’ll get to it.
Happy Thursday, friends! It’s my last day with students before Christmas break, and this teacher is pretty excited for the time off. I’ve got lots planned for the break, and I’m ready to get it kicked off. Hope y’all have a great day!
