Currently Loving- March 2019

Where is 2019 going? Already three months in? Why do I feel like I blinked and it’s gone? I’m not complaining. It’s that much closer to summer break, and it’s been a great month (other than all the pollen and allergy issues that have hit me like a ton of bricks). So many great things happened in March, and I’m pretty excited to share them with you today. This post is basically a compilation of everything I did this month. I don’t have a whole lot of products to report about, but if you’re nosy about what I got into, read on! 🙂

Auburn Freaking Basketball

Final Four. Enough said.

Baby Bush Gender Reveal

We have made some new friends this year that we have grown to love so much, and just recently they told us they were expecting their first baby. We were thrilled for them and even more excited when we were able to come to a big “framily” dinner and gender reveal party. It was such a fun time filled with great food, the yummiest cupcakes that revealed to us the gender, and even greater company. I love these guys so much and can’t wait to meet sweet baby James Wilder! It’s a BOY!

Book Club

Y’all know by now that it’s just standard that Book Club and the book we read for the month is going to be something I’m loving. I was excited to read this book because it was a nice break from the heavier reads we had taken on the first two months of the year.(A Man Called Ove, Where the Crawdads Sing) This time we went with a romance that was equal parts funny and romantic. Here’s the description of The Proposal from Amazon: “When freelance writer Nikole Paterson goes to a Dodgers game with her actor boyfriend, his man bun, and his bros, the last thing she expects is a scoreboard proposal. Saying no isn’t the hard part—they’ve only been dating for five months, and he can’t even spell her name correctly. The hard part is having to face a stadium full of disappointed fans…At the game with his sister, Carlos Ibarra comes to Nik’s rescue and rushes her away from a camera crew. He’s even there for her when the video goes viral and Nik’s social media blows up—in a bad way. Nik knows that in the wilds of LA, a handsome doctor like Carlos can’t be looking for anything serious, so she embarks on an epic rebound with him, filled with food, fun, and fantastic sex. But when their glorified hookups start breaking the rules, one of them has to be smart enough to put on the brakes…“. Sounds good huh? I liked it a lot. It was an easy read that was a total page turner. It, sadly, got some bad reviews on Amazon for being boring, but I enjoyed it for what it was- a fun, entertaining, romance novel that didn’t have to deal with heavy issues (other than the whole turning down a proposal thing).

In the book, one of Nik’s friends owns a cupcake shop, and she and Carlos go on a date to eat tacos. Naturally we had a taco bar and cupcakes for our book club. It was tons of fun, and we enjoyed talking and eating the yummy food, and I forgot to take even one stinking picture…

Chicken Sauce

Have y’all heard about this stuff? I was tempted not to even share because Lord knows as soon as I say anything I’ll never find it in Walmart again. However, you NEED to know about this. I learned at last month’s book club that there was a sauce in Walmart by the Great Value brand that tastes just like Chick-fil-A sauce. Well, that’s the Lord’s chicken and His favorite dipping sauce, so I found it and bought some frozen chicken fingers and fries, and we gave it a try. Y’all…it’s legit! So delicious, pretty darn close to the real thing, and I look forward to it in Heaven. 🙂

A Star is Born DVD

I finally got it! I should have bought it from Walmart the day it came out, but I waited around until it was sold out and it’s STILL not back in! I had to go to Target to find it, but I did. Still completely in love. It’s worth having in your collection. Okay Normans, when is movie night?

Spring Break

March brought Spring Break. It was glorious. It started with book club, so my house got real clean since I was hosting, and that was a total blessing, because we did a lot of what’s going on in the picture above. I napped with them on Wednesday (or was it Tuesday? I don’t remember.), and it was perfection. I also read a lot and am officially half way through Outlander. Y’all….y’all….if you’ve been on the fence about reading it, just do it. I don’t want to put it down!

Tuesdays are normally date night for us, but instead of date night we did date day and had lunch. It was kind of dreary and quite chilly, but lunch was tasty and the company was even better.

About a year ago my parents picked up a window off the side of the road. It was dirty and broken at the bottom, but I told them that if they could find someone to fix it I’d love to have it. Well, they fixed it! I talked about it a little over on Instagram when I first got it home. She’s been cleaned up and now she lives on the dresser in our bedroom. I’m unsure if I’ll paint it or try to paint and distress the new wood, because I kind of like her as is. Who knows? Over spring break she found her current home. I love her and especially love her with the blue hydrangeas.

I recently sent this photo to my friend Taten. I’m sharing it here to let you know about the current show I’m binge watching. I tried Gilmore Girls a long time ago and couldn’t get interested. Having since watched The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel three times through, I decided to give Gilmore Girls one more chance. Both shows were created and written by the same genius, Amy Sherman-Palladino. I don’t know if it’s because I am just so appreciative of her talent, but I am officially obsessed with Gilmore Girls (as the picture says). It’s such a delightful show that fuels my desire for coffee and makes me appreciate small town life. I’m hoping that The Alabama Grill is going to be my Luke’s Diner!

New Desk Chair

I realize that I’ve been at my job for almost two full school years, but I never got around to getting a new chair. It hardly rolled, the back nearly fell off, and it squeaked incessantly. Look at it…

Hideous, horrible, questionable spot on the seat. YUCK! But one lucky morning I took my class to the bathroom and found another chair with a Free Chair sign! I tested the rolling ability and squeaking right there in the hallway and had my most enthusiastic student, who was already bouncing down the hall, roll it back to the classroom for me. It may not be the prettiest thing or the best in office desk chairs, but I’m not normally at my seat very long during the day and it was FREE, so I’m supremely happy about it!

Determined to Wear Color

I recently had the idea to challenge myself to add more color into my wardrobe. I tend to gravitate to black clothing. Most of the time you can find me in a black top with jeans or black pants. I love color, but even in my home I opt for a more neutral palette. I recently cleaned out my closet and found some colorful options that I’m going to start working into my wardrobe. I also got a few hand-me-downs from my aunt, and all of them were colorful. I decided to give it a go and had one of the most colorful weeks of work I may have ever had. My students were commenting on my wardrobe every day. They couldn’t believe I even owned clothes with color. They know my favorite color is black, and to see me in yellow and pink in one week was shocking. I did do black and white tops two days, but they were mostly white….that counts, right? I forgot to take a picture of my most colorful outfit, but I’ll wear it again and share.

That particular week was a trial run. I’ve challenged myself for the month of April to wear more color every day. I won’t always succeed because of my limited wardrobe, but I’m going to reach for things I kept tucked away and bring in the color. It’s going to be a little series I’m planning for April on the blog. I’m going to link as many things as I can or similar things for you in each post if you are so inclined to shop. I’ve had some people mention they’d like for me to go shopping with or for them, so this is an easy way for me to do that. I’ll let you know over on social media closer to it starting, so follow me there to keep up with all the info and the looks. (Facebook, Instagram)

Wedding Showers

The wedding festivities for my brother and his fiancee have begun! We had the first shower at the beginning of the month with their work family and just had another last weekend at Mom’s and Dad’s church. Two more to go and then it’s game time! So excited for the two of them!

Work Shower – The hostesses had all the photo props.
Church Shower – The groom got to participate in this one.

Bachelorette Weekend

I ended my March with a celebration of my future sister-in-law for her bachelorette weekend. She mentioned a spa day, and we did just that. The Spa at the Renaissance is beautiful and incredibly accommodating. The staff was delightful and kind and great at their jobs. I was very pleased with the whole experience and will definitely go back for further treatments.

Anna really hoped we could all do out treatments together in the same room, so the way that that could happen was for all of us to get pedicures. Hour-long, luxurious, foot-smoothing, deliciously-smelling pedicures. All complete with tons of laughs, complimentary champagne, gentle and skilled nail techs, and tons of memories made with six of us crammed into a too-small room just to get our toes did!

We headed to a delicious dinner at Saza’s in downtown Montgomery for the most decadent Italian food then to The Tipping Point for dessert (cookie skillets) and cocktails. It was a great day and night full of fun and laughter, and I can’t wait to do it again, girls!

Whew, March was quite a month. I could definitely get used to that spa life, and after such a full month, it was the perfect way to end it. April is sure to bring on its own bit of craziness with more wedding showers and then the actual wedding. It’s also my birthday and state testing at school (yikes). “I think I can. I think I can. I think I can.” Yep, definitely going to need to schedule another spa visit for the end of April.

Happy Sunday, friends!
