Hi, friends! Let’s talk guilty pleasures. I have a few…at least seven as evidenced by this blog post. Mine consist of various forms of entertainment and some snacks. I looked up the definition of a guilty pleasure and this is what Google had to say: “something, such as a movie, television program, or piece of music, that one enjoys despite feeling that it is not generally held in high regard”. Yep, that about sums it up for me. I know some of you will be saying, “Me too!” But maybe I’ll introduce you to a few new ones. For that I’m sorry and you’re welcome.
Very Cavallari
Kristin Cavallari may just be one of the greatest villains on reality television. It all started way back when I was in high school with Laguna Beach that aired on MTV. That led to The Hills, which was also a guilty pleasure back in the day. Since her days on MTV, Kristin has gotten married, had three children, started a business, and is now on season two of her latest reality program called Very Cavallari. You can watch it on E! and can see season one and this season’s episodes on demand. Listen y’all, she’s a boss and takes no crap, and I am Here. For. It.
Outlander
I don’t really feel that guilty about it because it’s a book, and I’m reading, so it’s got to be good for my brain. It’s basically historical fiction set in another country and there’s a little bit of time travel going on, too. It gets a little steamy sometimes, so I guess that’s why people may consider it a guilty pleasure, but I am not ashamed of this one. Read it!
Show Tunes
I don’t really feel guilty about this either, but I know that lots of people think this is weird and loserish. I just like what I like, okay? Show tunes are often sung by the most talented singers and tell the greatest stories. Have you ever heard the music of Wicked? Les Mis? Hamilton? Jersey Boys? Guys and Dolls? It’s all incredible, and you can bet your bottom dollar it’s on my playlist. Have a listen to a fun compilation!
The Ladygang Podcast
Okay, so this one I feel a little guilty about. It’s a bit raunchy in that there is no topic too controversial for them, but that’s kind of what makes me like it. They put it all out there and do not care. The panel is made up of three women: Keltie Knight from Entertainment Tonight, Becca Tobin from Glee, and Jac Vanek from jacvanek.com which is a t-shirt and accessories company. Their podcast got turned into a TV show, and though I watch it because it’s on right after Very Cavallari, I prefer the podcast. They have great chemistry, and I like how honest they are with each other and about themselves. This podcast is not for little ears; do not listen with your children present.
Boxed Wine
I’m not hating on the boxed wine, but typically, I’m not a huge fan. I recently discovered a boxed rosé that I am quite on board with it. I have had Black Box wine before, some kind of red I think, but I didn’t repurchase because it wasn’t my favorite. However, I saw this one before book club last month and knew that I needed to try it since it was cheaper than buying multiple bottles of the rosé I had in my buggy. Well, wouldn’t you know that I like it better than the bottle stuff! This is probably one of those things I shouldn’t share for fear that it won’t show back up in the store anymore. ☹ Here’s hoping you guys don’t like rosé so that my guilty pleasure can keep being fulfilled.
Ghiradelli Dark Chocolate Chips
I have a major sweet tooth that I inherited from my dad. Because of that I tend to keep a chocolate stash in the house. Sometimes I get Paul to hide it from me (hello, PMS), but most of the time I just keep a big bag of those Ghiradelli chips in my cupboard and grab a few for “dessert” or when a craving strikes. And Paul doesn’t like them so I don’t have to share. ☺
Instagram Accounts
This guilty pleasure is a 3-in-1. I follow several accounts, but these three bring me such joy. They make me laugh, feel nostalgic, and allow me to see old artwork with some humor. They are:
Comments by Celebs– Hilarity ensues when celebrities start posting on Instagram and commenting on each other’s posts. Absolutely hysterical.
Satc_posts– If you’re familiar with the acronym, you know this one is dedicated to my favorite television show of all time, Sex and the City. I enjoy seeing the photos of the girls and reading the quotes that go along with the scene. I’ll always stop my scroll to reminisce.
Punk History– This account takes pieces of art and adds comments from modern day events, shows, or songs. It’s often sarcastic which only makes it better. Here’s one of my favorites to help you understand what I’m talking about.
Now that I’ve spilled the beans on my guilty pleasures, you have to share at least one of your with me. Do we share any? I’d love to know that, too. Are you going to add to your list because of mine? Tell me all the things.
Hope you’re having a delightful Saturday, my friends. I’m off to the lake for the last wedding shower for Andrew and Anna. Two more weeks until “I do”!
