Currently Loving- June 2019

Hi, friends! Can you believe June is over? I’m not ready for July. I think I say that every year. I have so much fun in the summer and never want it to end. Thinking about going back to work after summer break makes me a little sad. I love this free schedule. I’ll have to make the most of July, but let’s recap June. It was a busy one!

Book Club

This month we held book club for the book we read the previous month, Next Year in Havana by Chanel Cleaton. Because it was set in Cuba, we decided to run with that theme and had Cuban sandwiches, black beans, and some very delicious caramel coconut balls. Oh my goodness, we had an all out feast. Of course we talked about the book, but this time the food was so good. I’ll try to get the recipes and share on my Instagram and Facebook page, so please make sure you’re following me there.

Under the blue lid are the incredible coconut balls. The heart-shaped things are magical little puff pastry cookies. We also had angel food cake with fruit. Told you the food was good this time.

Tony Awards

I always look forward to the Tony Awards because I’m just one giant theater nerd. I keep up with current Broadway shows and their cast albums for fun, and I can most likely be found listening to show tunes from new and old musicals. I know this drives my husband crazy and probably my neighbors, too. One show I was most excited to see a performance from was The Cher Show. Bob Mackie did the costumes for this show just like he did for the real Cher.

It was incredible.

I Finally Cut My Hair

I wanted to do this way back in February or March, but I knew my brother was getting married in April and I figured that long hair would be easier to deal with if I needed to have my hair up. So I waiting until school was out, chopped of several inches and went a little bit blonder. I love it! It’s only the end of June and I already want a trim. If you’re on the fence about a hair cut or color, JUST DO IT! It’s just hair. It’ll grow back and bad color can be fixed.

Curling Iron

And with shorter hair came a new styling tool. I had been hearing about a T3 micro curling iron for a long time, but the $160 price tag kept me from biting the bullet. I saw on Instagram that I could get the same results from a curling iron I could find at Walmart. Say what?! Well, naturally our Walmart had no such curling iron, but Ulta did. I chose the Infinity Pro by Conair in a 1.25″ barrel. It gives me loose waves, which is what I was going for. So far, I’m really liking it. And it’s on sale right now at Ulta!

Paul Broke His Leg

This wasn’t exactly something that I loved about June. But as things kept unfolding in this process, I realized he got the best case scenario for such a crappy thing to have happened. It wasn’t a break through and through, more like a fracture, and he didn’t need surgery or even a cast. He got a boot, a cane, a scooter, and some R&R.. Every day he gets a little bit stronger and the pain eases, and I’m so thankful that he’s been able to be mobile while healing. Choosing to see the good has given us hope, and we keep reminding ourselves that it’s only for a short time he’ll be enduring this. Thanks for all the calls, well wishes, and prayers. We are so grateful!

In more good broken bone news, my mom, who broke her ankle just before Mothers’ Day, got her cast off and in about a week and a half will be able to start putting weight on it. She got a boot and a scooter, too, and a light at the end of a very long recovery tunnel. Thanks for all the help with her, too, y’all! So many people have checked in on her, called her, brought food, taken her to get a hair cut, and countless other things. Thank you!

Baby JW Baby Shower

We went to the sweetest baby shower brunch celebrating our friends, and we cannot wait to meet baby JW! Paul even picked out the gift which was really cute and totally fitting for these golf-loving guys.

Adults (By 40) Get to Know Us Episode

We shared part one of the episode that gets to know us as a panel, and I so enjoyed listening back to the stories we shared. You can check it our for yourself here. Come here stories of how we know each other, some unfortunate experiences with hair dying, birthdays, and a mishap with a chair.

Everything I Shared in This Post

I shared a blog post a few Saturdays ago that was all about some recent purchases I’d made. Well, I am still loving them. I specifically shared about a brand called Body Glide. I use their Foot product that keeps blisters from forming in even the most uncomfortable of shoes. And, y’all, they shared my photo and my blog post on their Instagram and Twitter pages! I was just a little excited. Okay, a lot.

TV Shows

I listed several shows I thought about checking out this summer here, and I’ve made my way through lots of them.

Here’s what I’ve watched, completed, and loved:

Hilarious, smart, full of heart, nothing like I expected.
I had to catch up on season 1 before starting season 2 on the 20th. I really got into the story, and I can’t wait to see how the rest of season 2 unfolds.
A little stressful but really great. Season 3 is coming!
I mean, I just love this show, and I’m not sorry about it. It’s so cute and just good fun. I laughed out loud so many times and cried during the last episode.
Wow. That’s all.

Here’s what I’m watching now and really loving:

They’re going to have to kill Mary Louise. She cray! And Renata’s story is so crazy good!
Only two episodes in to season 2 but I’m really enjoying it so far.
Holy smokes. It keeps me from sleeping, but I can’t stop. Elisabeth Moss is so. flipping. good.
I don’t watch a whole lot of reality TV anymore, but Bravo gets it right with Southern Charm.

Where’d You Go, Bernadette?

I wish I hadn’t have let this book sit on my shelf for so many years before picking it up. It was such a quick and easy read. The characters are funny and smart, and I just loved everything about it. Can’t wait for the movie in August.

Statement earrings

Earlier this month I bought the turquoise earrings in the picture from The Roost and pretty much haven’t taken them off. I wear them with everything. But then Wisteria Cottage went and got some of the cutest statement earrings, and I couldn’t hold back from getting two of them. Well, three, but I gave one pair to my mom. And then summer usually gets my creativity flowing, so I crafted myself the red earrings. You can read that tutorial here. Does anyone else have the addiction to accessories that I have?

Blended Watermelon

My parents shared a watermelon with me that wasn’t super sweet, so I wasn’t eating it like I normally eat watermelon. I decided to get the blender out and come up with a drink. I had a bottle of champagne chilled in the fridge, so I made myself a little cocktail with champagne and blended watermelon. It was quite good. Then the next day, we had some lemonade already in the fridge, so I added the blended watermelon to the lemonade, and it was tasty. It had such a fresh taste to it, and I can’t wait to do it again and try with different things!

NutPods Coffee Creamer

I worked a golf tournament at Paul’s golf course and worked with Mrs. Pam who is killing it on a Keto journey. We were talking all the things, and she was telling me about Nutpods. I had seen them on various Instagram accounts, but I had never tried them. Well, because Mrs. Pam is awesome, she sent me a French Vanilla and a Caramel creamer to try. Now, I’m fine with black coffee. I trained myself to drink it in an effort to break up with my beloved Pumpkin Spice. However, this stuff was delicious. It added just a touch of flavor to my coffee, and because I already wasn’t using any sweetener, I did need to add any extra sugar or stevia to it. They even make seasonal flavors. I really want to try the Cinnamon Swirl one. Hello, fall! And if you’re into the intermittent fasting thing, these won’t break your fast!

My First Discount Code

On Saturday I shared a blog post of game day outfits from Wisteria Cottage. I reached out to them to see if they wanted to offer readers of my blog a discount. They happily agreed to give 10% off to in-store customers and to online shoppers. If you shop in store, all you have to do is mention my blog. If you’re shopping online you can use the promo code: NORMANLIFE10 at checkout. This is pretty big for a :”green” blogger such as myself, so I’m pretty excited! The code is good until Saturday, July 6th, y’all. So don’t forget to mention it when you go in store or when you shop online.

Told y’all it was a busy month! I just love summer and all the action it can bring. Even if it is just in the form of a good TV show. 🙂 What was your favorite thing about June? Tell me in the comments. Have a great week, y’all!
