Long time no see! I started this post originally on Oct. 26 but life got in the way and I wasn’t able to ever finish it. Needless to say, I have lots of good things to share, but that would be one massively long post. So, I’m going to start with things you need to watch (or not watch) right now.
What to Watch
The Queen’s Gambit (Netflix)– I know nothing about chess, but this show is strangely intriguing and wonderfully acted. I’m not quite finished, but I’m moving through it rather quickly and completely enthralled when I watch. It’s not one of those shows you put on when you’re cooking or scrolling your phone. You’ll want to pay attention to this one.
The Undoing (HBO)– This is the latest from David E. Kelley who brought us Big Little Lies. It stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant, and it is mesmerizing! I am completely entranced by every detail. Nothing is missed from the clothes, to the decor, to the acting, to the story. And to the cinematography (I assume that’s what you call it when you talk about the way the camera operates and zooms in…) anyway, it’s fantastic. I’m really enjoying it. It’s out every Sunday night at 8:00.
The Holidate (Netflix)– Silly but funny, a little crude, and a very interesting concept. Sloane is tired of her meddling family asking her when she’s bringing home a guy. Then she meets Jackson, and they decide to be each other’s Holidate for the whole year. I laughed out loud many times!
One Royal Holiday (Hallmark)– A cardiac nurse has a meet cute with a royal, unbeknownst to her, of course, and they spend the days leading up to Christmas snowed in. Naturally this gives them a chance to fall for one another. Though it has it’s standard cheesy Hallmark movie moments, it was so good because it stars Laura Osnes and Aaron Tveit. These two are major Broadway stars and are incredibly musically talented which they show off in the film. Definitely DVR it if you want a feel-good Holiday movie.
Don’t Bother With…
The Dutchess (Netflix)– Got halfway through episode 2 and turned it off. I thought it was going to be funny, and maybe it is, but it wasn’t my kind of funny nor was it very interesting. But since being different makes the world go round, maybe you’ll find it funny and interesting.
Just So-So
Dream Home Makeover from Studio McGee (Netflix)– This one was okay. It just didn’t seem very relatable so I didn’t love it. I guess I’m more into looking for ideas I can do in a rental. However, if home decor is your thing, the McGees do beautiful work and you’re likely to pick up a few ideas for your own home or for your future dream home. They also have two cute daughters, and they’re fun to watch.
What’s on My Radar?
I’m looking forward to season four of The Crown (Nov. 15), Virgin River season 2 (Nov. 27), Hillbilly Elegy (Nov. 24)- The memoir, while wonderful, is not a happy story but there is a sense of hope, and it seems that will happen in the film as well. Also looking forward to Dash and Lily on Tuesday and Selena The Series. (all on Netflix)
What are you watching lately? Have you seen any on this list? Looking forward to any of the same ones I’m looking forward to? Have any that I should add to my list? Tell me in the comments.
