Hello Weekend!!! Who’s excited? I’m living for the weekends these days. The photo above is when we visited my brother and sister-in-law last weekend. We watched some football, ate a lot of yummy food, and made smores! This weekend is more low-key, and I’m not mad about it. Teaching in a pandemic is tough, y’all. Love on your teacher friends, your kids’ teachers, or yourself if you are a teacher. They/we need it! Weekends are our favorite time right now. This week I’ve been sharing some of my favorite things I’ve come across these past three weeks, and I am finally wrapping it up this week with post number three. It’s a random assortment of things, so we’ll just call this a regular ol’ 5 Good Things post.
Let’s Talk Christmas Music
Are you listening yet? I have listened a little since October, but Leslie Odom, Jr. released his new Christmas album called, The Christmas Album, and I’m listening a lot more now. It’s completely unique in that he has incredibly diverse guest singers and he sings a lovely duet with his wife of a Hanukkah song. Every single song is wonderful. He may have put into the world my favorite rendition of “Mele Kalikimaka”. And then we have to talk about the song that closes the album called “Heaven and Earth”. It makes me want to cry it’s so beautiful. If you’re still unsure of who Leslie Odom, Jr. is, then maybe you’ve heard of a little show called Hamilton. đŸ™‚ He plays Aaron Burr. He’s a massive deal and has a voice straight from heaven. Have a listen to “Heaven and Earth”.
Target for the Win
I’ve been eyeing this black door mat for, oh, three months? Black is my go-to color, and when I saw this, I knew I had to have it. When I went to Target last Saturday and saw there was only one left, I scooped it right up! Simple, to the point, and totally me. And you can’t beat the price tag of $12.99. It’s available online here.
Wine Nails
I’m sure wine colored nails for fall are like florals for spring – groundbreaking, but a long, long time ago when Rachel Zoe had her TV show on Bravo, she always had wine colored, dark nails, and anything Rachel did I wanted to do. In a magazine interview I saw her say she wore the color Malaga Wine by OPI. Naturally, I bought it and wore the heck out of it. I have never been able to find another bottle of it. Well, I didn’t look that hard online, but I never found one in person. This past weekend I was browsing colors of Essie Gel Couture (aka the longest wearing nail polish for at home manicures ever) and found Spiked with Style. Say hello to Malaga Wine’s twin sister. It’s a, well, it’s a wine color (deep, dark burgundy), and I’m such a happy girl. *If you haven’t tried this stuff yet, what in the world are you waiting for? But you MUST get the top coat. It’s a real miracle worker over top of any nail polish.
A Good Book
Maybe I’ve discussed this one before, but I don’t think I have…it bears repeating if I did. I, yet again, recommended a HORRIBLE book for book club. We wanted to read something a little thriller/mystery/scary for October, so I suggested The 11 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. Don’t waste the hours of your life it’ll take you to get through the book. It was awful. Lauren said it was about 30 chapters too long, and she ain’t lying. After I finished that one, I got American Royals by Katharine McGee as an audiobook loan from the library. It was the perfect palette cleanser after such a bad book, and I didn’t even realize it was YA. I’m on the list for the sequel, and I’m really looking forward to it.
NYC Apartment
Nope, we aren’t moving. Paul Norman would sooner die than move to NYC. But I live vicariously through one my favorite Instagram follows, Anna Page of The Page Edit. Anna is a fashion blogger and influencer who moved with her husband to NYC and has just gotten a pre-war apartment that she is decorating and I am here for it! That black and white floor is done with tile stickers!! I love following people who live in similar spaces as myself. I’m always learning tips and tricks of apartment living by following people who live in them, and Anna is definitely one to follow.
So what have you been loving this week? I might be loving my Christmas decorations now, but you’ll have to wait until next week to see that. I hope your Saturday is just delightful. I foresee a lot of golf in my future with the Masters on.
