I Made a Table

You read that right. I made a table. I recently noticed I had a need for a beverage table on the side of my sofa. The way our furniture has to be positioned in our apartment allows room for only one side table between the sofa and the recliner, but I find myself sitting on the side without the table. Whether it be coffee, a Yeti full of water, or a cocktail, I need a place to put it. So I up and made one.

A while ago I saw a fun tutorial on Instagram of someone making such a table. I thought that seemed unlikely I’d be able to do such a thing and turned to Google in search of pricing actual drink tables. Have you also done this search? Holy cow, they’re expensive! I went back to the idea of making the table.

One random day over Christmas break, my mom and I drove down to a little store in Luverne called Reimagined. Follow them on Instagram to see some of their great items. After walking around and seeing all they had to offer, I spotted a tall candle holder that made me think I may have found the base for a beverage table. She sold it to me for a mere $15, which may have been entirely too much money, but it wasn’t the $150+ price tag I had discovered on my Google search, so I thought, “Take my money, lady!”

I came home, did an Amazon search for a small marble cheese board, ordered it for around $25, and waited for the Prime delivery. *Note* Be sure you check the dimensions of the board. I had a specific measurement in mind when it came to the circumference.

I remembered my mom and dad talking about the “good glue”, E6000, and asked to borrow theirs. I put the glue around the top of the candle holder and pressed it into the center of the back of the marble board. The directions on the glue says to wait a full 24 hours, but waiting up to 72 is sometimes required. I figured I’d better wait the full 72 hours, so I let it sit upside down for 3 days to make sure it was nice and secure.

I’m so pleased with how it turned out, and I have thoroughly enjoyed having a convenient place to put my beverages.

As always when I write these kinds of blog posts, I encourage you to challenge your creativity. Something that is too expensive to purchase might be something you can make. Be on the lookout for items in unexpected places. And always visit the fun shops; they have the best treasures.
