Life Lately

Can you believe we have made it ONE YEAR through this pandemic? I remember this time last year when we were all so scared and stocking up on toilet paper. Thankfully, that toilet paper thing turned out alright! I did have a lot of fear about the virus, though. It took me almost a whole year to actually get it, but now that it’s behind me, I’m glad I’m mostly past it. I still don’t think my taste is 100% back to normal. I can taste almost everything, but there are some things I eat and it just doesn’t taste as good as it once did. Maybe one day… Okay, enough about the virus and the pandemic. Let’s get to some good stuff.

Pomchies Masks

Pom Masks 2 Pack - Cactus Bloom

Men can be so difficult to buy for during the holidays, but Paul gave me some hints when he mentioned the Pomchies masks. I knew The Pineapple had some, but most of the prints were girly, and honestly, they looked too small for him. I ordered straight from the website and decided to order a set of size large and size extra large. Turns out the extra large fits Paul best, and he wanted to exchange the large ones for the bigger size. I, of course, missed the date to make the exchange, but I emailed the company ensuring them they hadn’t been worn, and asked if they would allow the exchange. Turns out, they did! The customer service was fantastic. The emails were understanding, polite, even kind. It’s not often you get such good customer service, so I just wanted to shout them out. The masks are lightweight, breathable, and come in a variety of colors, patterns, and prints. Check out The Pineapple to support a local business and get these masks. Two birds with one stone.

New Purse

Quilted Chain Handle Magnetic Closure Tote Handbag - A New Day™ - image 1 of 9

I used to always change purses with the change of the seasons, but I found a purse that I loved from Sole Society that I carried for years and years until it finally started falling apart. I mean, I was using a paperclip as the inner zipper. I thought I wanted to be a small-purse girl, but I just like to carry all my junk around with me, so I knew I needed a comparable size to the Sole Society one. Enter Instagram and the influencer, Loverly Grey, with a Target purse that looked right up my alley. I opted for the black colorway (comes in 3), and I couldn’t be happier. It looks GOOD for its $40 price tag. Can’t recommend it enough!

Walmart Finds

Red Sweater

Since the pandemic started and our Walmart started slacking in the clothing department (they’re getting a little better), I haven’t really been perusing that section of the store when I went in. Not long ago, I did take a stroll through and found a bright red sweater on clearance for $11. It’s a color way out of my comfort zone, but it practically jumped in my cart. It’s not itchy, it’s warm, and it fits nicely. I’d say it’s true to size. It was also available in olive green, wine, and ivory. As I write this post, it’s still showing as $17 online. Check in store for the clearance price.

Quilted Slides

I could not leave these black quilted slides in the store when I saw them. I knew I needed a black pair of sandals for the summer, but I didn’t know I’d get lucky enough to score a pair that looked like these. And for $15! They have a Chanel vibe to them with the quilting and the espadrille sole. I’ve seen some Instagram accounts that have been making a DIY faux Chanel shoe out of them with patches and sparkles, and they’re pretty cute. Check out this post to see how they did it. As far as fit goes, they are true to size, needed a full day of wear to get them broken in. They’ll loosen up over time it seems. I also recommend the Body Glide/Foot Glide to ward off any blisters. It’s a summer shoe staple for me.

Fuzzy Slippers
Secret Treasures Women's Lug Sole Slide

I honestly don’t remember when I got slippers last. It’s been several years. There was a hole in the toe, the cushion was no longer, and the fuzziness was all worn down. I opted for a trendy, and available, option to finally replace my old ones. I wasn’t too sure about the open toe design of these slippers, but they have excellent cushion, are fuzzy enough to keep my feet warm, and look cute, too. At only $10, I’d say I got a great deal. They’re the Secret Treasures brand and are listed online as an in-store purchase only, so you can’t buy them online. I linked them anyway. I’m normally an 8.5 in shoes, but I got the 7/8 size, and they are perfect with plenty of room.

Podcast for Us Books Nerds

Being a book nerd means you’ll consume a lot of books and a lot of things about books in a lot of ways. I follow a lot of accounts on #bookstagram, subscribe to the Buzzfeed Books Newsletter, and now I’ve discovered an excellent podcast from a sweet little book shop called The Bookshelf in Thomasville, GA. Annie Jones, the owner of The Bookshelf and host of the podcast, From the Front Porch, is a pure delight, and I’m convinced we’d be great friends. We seem to share similar reading tastes, and I desperately want to go to her shop and buy all the books and bookish things. I’ve been listening to her recent episodes, but I’ve also been listening to back episodes, and they are all wonderful. If you’re a book lover like I am, I’d suggest giving this one a listen. I particularly love the Monthly Reading Recap episodes and the Literary Therapy episodes.

The Family Stone Ultimate Fan Podcast

Because of the From the Front Porch podcast, I discovered another podcast called The Popcast. They discuss all things pop culture and plenty of other stuff, too. As I was scrolling through their episodes, I found episode 382: The Family Stone Deep Dive. Guys, it’s my favorite movie of all time, so I couldn’t NOT listen to it. If you are a super fan of the movie, I think you’ll enjoy it. It was so fun to hear their commentary and thoughts about the characters, the family dynamic, and every other detail imaginable about the film.

Awards Show Season is Here…Kind of

This pandemic has taken a lot of things from us, and we can add awards shows to that list. This is one of my favorite times of year when we get to ogle at the fashion and watch the films and shows that get nominated. But, Sunday, February 28 brought us our first awards show of the season, The Golden Globes. It was mostly virtual, which was safest, but it put a dampener on the red carpet looks, and it really wasn’t that great to watch. This was the first time I haven’t watched from start to finish completely enthralled. Despite all these negative comments, I did manage to spy some very nice fashion moments on the internet. Take a peek.

Kate Hudson in Louis Vuitton (my favorite of the night)
Anya Taylor-Joy in Dior
Margot Robbie in Chanel
Kaley Cuoco in Oscar de la Renta
Amanda Seyfried in Oscar de la Renta
Regina King in Louis Vuitton
Elle Fanning in Gucci (giving me Grace Kelly vibes)

Fashion is just fun to me. I like keeping up with the new collections, and I had just seen another dress by Chanel in the same fabric as Margot Robbie’s and thought how excited I was to get some spring clothes out and enjoy them again. But for now I’ll go slip on my fuzzy slippers and sweats to keep warm this weekend and watch the recorded episodes of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy on the DVR. That’s right. I said Wheel of Fortune. You know you like it, too. 🙂 Have a good one, y’all!
