Well, the back-to-school germs got me pretty good this weekend. I noticed a tickle in my throat Friday night when I was getting in bed and woke up in need of meds. That’s pretty much what I did all weekend- take meds and rest. This happens every year like clockwork. Anyone else get a back-to-school cold? I’m thankful to be feeling a little better, though, because I’ve got a long week ahead of me.
Good Eats
Last week I said Paul and I were headed to a celebratory dinner for our anniversary and my sister-in-law’s birthday. We went to the restaurant, Ravello, and we had the most fun. I know I’ve blogged about this place already, but just go ahead and save your pennies and make a reservation. You won’t be sorry. We definitely got the tiramisu again.
Today starts the first full week with students. We’ve had three days with them so far, and I was wiped come Friday night. I’ve not had any trouble falling asleep, and my reading life is suffering because of it.
One thing that’s not suffering is my ability to watch television/movies. I have so many things to share that I’ve watched recently.
For Your Viewing Pleasure
Southern Charm– I have no idea what season this is, and truth be told, I think it should probably be its last. However, it’s my form of trash TV, and I’m enjoying it. Watch on Bravo.
Never Have I Ever (season 3)- I have only watched two episodes of this new season, but I love this delightful show. It’s written by Mindy Kaling and is hilarious. Watch on Netflix.
Iron Man– In an effort to connect with some of my students, I promised to watch a few Marvel films. The internet says to start in Phase One. I didn’t love it, but it was good for a superhero movie. Watch on Disney+.
Wedding Season– This was a quirky, cute, silly rom com that was pretty wholesome. It’s nothing too special, but if you find yourself in need of a feel good film, this could do it. Watch on Netflix.
Virgin River (season 3)- What a cliffhanger! I got a little bored in the middle of the season, but it picked back up at the end. Watch on Netflix.
Romance in Style– I thought this was such a cute movie about size inclusivity in the fashion industry. And we get TWO kisses in this Hallmark movie and a Lizzo song. Seems like a budget flex, no? Watch on Hallmark.
Persuasion– Some folks were not excited about this movie, but I actually really liked it. I wasn’t familiar with this story, but I quite liked it. I’d say give it a whirl. Watch on Netflix.
Ozark (season 4)- I know I was late to getting around to this one, but Paul and I finally finished. I’m gonna say it… I didn’t love the ending. I actually do understand why they did what they did, but I didn’t like it. Watch on Netflix.
Captain America: The First Avenger– I much preferred this one to Iron Man and actually think I’d like to watch more of the Captain America movies. Watch on Disney+.
What Should You Read Next?
Well, honestly, I don’t really have much to report. I did finish my book club book, Things We Do in the Dark by Jennifer Hillier. It was just okay for me. I think if you like mysteries it’ll be fine. It just wasn’t a super exciting mystery.
I did begin another book called Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld. I think a book about school is a great option for this month if you’re looking for one. On my list of books about academia to read is: The Secret History by Donna Tartt, Admission by Julie Buxbaum, and Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis.
Trend Watch
I’m over summer. Over it. Because of that, I’ve got my eye on the fall trends. One thing I keep seeing is clogs. Yes, clogs are coming back. But here’s the thing- I don’t really love to spend a lot of money on trends. Enter Walmart. Y’all know I love a Walmart find, and I scored a pair of adorable clogs in the richest cognac color this past week. I did find them in store in Greenville but there weren’t a lot in stock. I did find them online. They have a more neutral color available online too. They’re only $30 and fit true to size. They aren’t available in half sizes, so size up the half.
